Running a Numeracy Tournament
Why not set up a numeracy tournament in your school or across your LA.
We have a range of fantastic card puzzles which make wonderful resources for schools and the home.
The Maths Zone was commissioned to run a number challenge for London primary schools. Called, the Count on Us Challenge, 50 schools from around London competed in semi-finals and these have been whittled down to 13 for tomorrow's final. After the final, the winning team will go on to challenge Boris Johnson and his current guest; former Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani!
The contest uses 24®Game cards and students have practised hard to reach amazing levels of fluency with their number skills. Look out for news of the winners!
The Maths Zone is the only place in the UK where you can get a full range of 24®Game cards. From the tournament standard single digit packs to full tournament kits and class sets, even the seriously challenging algebraic expressions set. See the 24®game page on The Maths Zone web site for full details.
Now, we have an alternative as well. From Portugal, where this is the main resource for number challenge tournament including a world championship, we have found SuperTMatik. This is great for in-school tournaments, because pupils can be seeded and answer questions at their own level. So, stronger and weaker pupils can compete together. See our SuperTMatik page and follow the link to the video presentation to see how the game works.
Finally, there is the long established Target Maths. Four numbers are shown around the card and a target number in red in the centre. Use the four numbers combined with arithmetic operations to make the target number. There are 5 sets from puzzles with only three numbers, to puzzles with four numbers and one of them unknown! These are great for lesson starters and for school tournaments. See the Target Maths page on The Maths Zone.
Also, get a guide to running Number Challenge Tournaments with any of these resources FREE when you order £30 or more worth of any of these products at The Maths Zone.
