Make the target number in the centre, using all four numbers, one of which is unknown.

Set 5 is open-ended. By using a ‘?’ to complete the solution, the level of difficulty can be carefully managed.

For example:

take a card and see if a number from 1 to 10 can bu used in place of ‘?’ to make the target number

use addition and subtractiononly

use multiplication at least once, to make the target number

investigate which of the numbers from 1 - 9 could be used
